About

I’m Katie, the owner of this Blog eZine and our sister forum, Our Writes. I’m a woman in her late 30s who is a survivor of childhood and adolescent emotional abuse, protracted bullying, and emotional neglect. As part of this I witnessed domestic violence between my parents.

I have always written, and when I left university back in ’92 one of my lecturers told me to always write. I have kept to his word, and have never stopped writing, even through the darkest days of my life.
But I’ve never taken my talent fully seriously up until now.

I’ve journalled every day since I was 11. I write free verse periodically when the muse takes me. My speciality is Creative Non Fiction though, and I edited an eZine for a well known online self harm support community for the past year. I wrote many articles for this eZine. I can also create allegorical stories.
Writing is a major part of my healing work.

I’ve much voluntary work experience – with the homeless, women and children fleeing domestic violence, and supporting people with mental health difficulties – both online and befriending work. My specialities are working with a psychodynamic perspective of pain, asĀ  well as advocacy. I am passionate about fighting prejudice and stigma. I hope at some point in the future to return to a psychotherapy training and complete the course.

I started Our Writes and Survivors Writes to help those with troubled pasts find their voice, to speak their truths and transform their pain through creativity.
